We’re about to take you down the rabbit hole, so it’s time to grab some provisions and get ready for a trip. Toronto’s Mark Penner, otherwise known as DJ / producer Cyclist, has just released his first 12”, Incoming Instructions, on his and Karl Kling’s own MANI/PEDI Records. The set comes complete with two originals, as well as two remixes from Alexander Robotnick and Brioski, the latter of which we’re excited to premiere for you today.
As an original, the releases title track showcases Cyclist’s disco roots, moving us through on funky grooves and sizzling synth lines. But once Italian producer Brioski gets his hand in the mix, let’s just say we’re swiftly ushered through that hidden door behind the bookcase, down a spiral staircase and into a completely different space. Well known for his wide range of influences, Brioski treats us to a techno savvy, disco–tinged, psychedelic atmosphere here, which takes us on a tantalizing journey into the depths. It’s a track that’s myriad layers reveal themselves more with each listen, so we’d suggest you set some time aside and just let this one play out how it will.
